Some Lovely Gossipy Snippets

First off, a few snippets about what makes me “tick”, because one thing is for sure, it is incredibly important to me, that should you choose to work with me, we enjoy a great working relationship. All business and no fun makes building a business very dull!

Not on my watch!

I will not just produce the goods with the minimum of interaction. Rather like my lovely pink flamingo, I am a Social Bird. A working relationship with me is worth more – empathy, warmth, humour and any sharing of knowledge I possibly can, to nurture you in your business start-up and beyond!

A few fun bits and bobs for you to mull over

My best ever relaxation technique is reading. All sorts of stuff but mostly crime writers such as Martina Cole, Kimberley Chambers and Jessie Keane. And for my 50th birthday, the fabulous, awesome Heather Atkinson, a crime writer on the west coast of Scotland, named a character in one of her books after me!

Tea is very definitely my thing! Drunk in a variety of Emma Bridgewater mugs throughout the day. I use a particular mug for whatever time of the day it is!

I completely adore dogs and we find ourselves without one for the first time in 30+ years. It’s strange and doesn’t seem quite right. So, watch this space!

I may be very firmly in red wine territory these days, but nothing will persuade me to drink the stuff! Vino Blanco, Veuve Clicquot and Bollinger for me, every time!

I simply cannot live without Scottish Tea Bags and shortbread so thanks to amazing friends who bring them and send them over!

I have an amazing hubby and family that is spread between the UK and Thailand, of all places. With grown up Stepchildren, 3 very beautiful Granddaughters and a cheeky chappie of a Grandson.

A Step Back In Time

From the days of curly perms of the 90s, through the noughties and into this decade, where we have seen the atomic rise of social media…I have been storytelling, building brands, researching, writing and creating copy and content.

Those were the glory days that have provided me with a wealth of incredible experience. Marketing campaigns that have taken me on an epic 15 city tour of America to promote the most boring town in Great Britain to travel agents, (think 4am starts and plenty of ice cold Budweiser), to the heat and poverty of the berry fields of rural Romania. A research trip for one of my all-time favourite marketing initiatives, World Jampionships!

Perhaps “varied” is an understatement!

My Journey

A Very Lucky Break!

I first started out in my very own micro business back in 2011 after a somewhat painful slip on the ice gave me the push, or should I say, “break”  I needed. The time was ripe and right, to make the change from unfortunate employee to, a self-employed project manager.

I have always liked a challenge, so as with any small business owner, I was doing everything involved with a full-on marketing campaign: Funding bids, budgets, PR, events and production of all marketing materials as well as social media campaigns. I worked with many small businesses to support their growth, showcase their products and client services and of course, increase their brand awareness.

It was hard work. Really hard work to sustain the level of energy required for ongoing business success. So, at the end of 2014 I decided to quieten things down a little!

Quietening Down (Not!)

In an attempt to “quieten down” I decided to retrain in clinical hypnotherapy and life coaching.

Once again, I built up a business. Online this time. And my focus was on Coaching for Confidence – in particular for ladies that are very sensitive about their size.

The thing was, it didn’t take me long to realise that it was still my “first love,” good old “get yourself out there and get your story told”, on brand, on message, copy, content, and the marketing of my business, that I enjoyed the most. I used to love doing guest interviews. It meant I could market my interviewee businesses!

Big Changes

Fast forward now to 2019 and me and my long-suffering hubby of rather a lot of years “retired”. We sold our beautiful old cottage in Perthshire, Scotland and left behind the chilly climes to sun ourselves in a rather stunning pueblo Blanco, full of light, and heat, in Southern Spain. My criteria for the location of a new home? Scotland in the sunshine. I got it!

I have never been any kind of a Domestic Goddess and never will be. I am far more au fait with how to work an iMac than a Dyson. And, trust me, hubby is far better at cooking, painting and house refurbishing than I will ever be. Although I do love a spot of interior design!

In order to keep the Grandchildren in “frequent flights” I decided to go back to doing what I adore and have done for more than half my life.

History Is Repeating Itself

As the sun shines over the olive groves and the swifts skim across the valley you will now find me tucked away in my home office for several days a week working one to one with start-up businesses.

I’m not ready to unplug the iMac by any stretch of the imagination.

There is nothing I love more than helping small business owners to build their brand, find their brand voice for themselves and to create fabulous copy that has the power to convert, to sell a story and set the scene for business success.

What Hasn’t Changed

Yes, the world has changed – A LOT!

But what hasn’t changed is the need for words, glorious words. That reaches out to an audience and captures the reader’s attention and take them on a journey.

We talk about SEO and any manner of other “technical” ways of fleshing out copy, but at the end of the day, unless copy captures the imagination, no amount of keywords, stuffed in each paragraph, will do the job!
